"Baby You're a Virtualized Network (come on Let your VM's Burst....across networks)"

Hi! Networking is NOT THAT SCARY.

Let's break it down.

What is Network Virtualization (NV)?

NV is the abstraction of networking devices, connectivity and services in a logical virtual network. Thanks to NV, you can combine multiple physical networks into one virtual software-based network OR divide a physical network into separate, independent virtual networks.

Hold on. What exactly is a physical network?

An example of one would be a LAN (Local Area Network). It's simply a group of computers and devices that share a common communication line/wireless link (think Ethernet cables and routers) and share the resources of a single computer/server within a small geographic area. Your computer and your home router make up your own private LAN.

Ok, and What About A Wide Area Network (WAN)?

A WAN is a network which is used to connect different LANs. You'l need a Telecommunication Service Provider (TSP) to interconnect LANs across different locations. BTW, the Internet is an example of a WAN.

Cool, Cool...but What Exactly Makes Up a Physical Network?

In a physical network, you'll need physical routers and switches to direct data traffic, and physical network interface cards (NICs) and Network Adapters to connect servers and computers to the network.

Ok....and Virtual Networks??

Network Virtualization does all of that networking activity (like data traffic directing and computer connecting) through SOFTWARE. This means, your network infrastructure just got more flexible and easier to manage. To create a new network, you don't need to go to the data center and install more physical devices. You can now provision the network from the comforts of your own home/office.
